I’m Riot. Aka Mere. Aka Meredith. I have a Master’s degree in English from University of St. Thomas, Houston and I read. A lot. And I talk about reading. Also a lot. I started a blog to review anything and everything I manage to get my hands on just to spare my beloved friends and family from having to listen to me yammer on about books all the time. Thanks, internet, for granting me the opportunity to engage in discussions that don’t relate to literature!

All credit for the title goes to Catherine W, because she is awesome.

This blog was started as a means of strengthening my book reviewing and writing skills. I enjoy reading books in a very wide variety of subjects and hailing from any time period, though the majority of what I read and review will likely be postmodernist in nature. For the most part, what you’ll be getting will be whatever I feel like reading and writing about. Reviews will be posted after I finish a book, so don’t expect entries on a regular schedule. But if a book happens to take me a while to complete I’ll try to post an update as to when another review can be expected. Maybe even an entertaining link or two just to keep you interested. I hope to stimulate discussion on literature and – with any luck – other topics as well.

I am also the Agent Provocateur-in-Chief at the multipartisan, multidenominational social justice and analysis blog PR Unfriendly. My other writings can be found at Basil & Spice, Yelp, and Skirt! Magazine.

    Laura -

Wow nobody has ever called me “a true inspiration” before! I think you are pushing it, but that was a really kind thing for you to say! I appreciate it, and I really hope that State of Denmark goes well for you! Mind if I pop you up there on the blogroll? Unfortunately, I have to go run errands right now before the stores close, but I will be sure to give it a readthrough as soon as I get back!

  6. msmazzola Says:

Please add me to your blogroll and I will do the same. Thanks. Any advice you can give me to improve my “blogging” would be welcome.

Argh. I typed up a really long response, and then the internet ate it.

The best advice I can give you is something you’re already doing – that is, visiting other people’s blogs, reading them, and commenting. It’s a great way to get to know fellow literature bloggers as well as promoting your own writings. Plus, you’ll DEFINATELY learn a lot about what’s out there to read! I would also encourage you to get involved in the community over at the Book Blogs Ring, which is linked over there. There is a group over there that offers constructive community critiques every month for people who would like them.

Feel free to ask me anything if you’d like! I am still relatively new to this as well, so if I don’t know how to help then surely someone I know could! Best of luck and I look forward to seeing more from you!

    Hello Meredith,
Greatings from Galveston. If you would be interested in reviewing my upcoming book, Fiction, by Ara 13, I will gladly send you an ARC (release March). I think it may by right up your alley since Confederacy of Dunces is one of your top books. My first novel, Drawers & Booths won an IPPY as an “Outstanding Book of the Year.” You can research me at Ara13.com and on Amazon (for Drawers & Booths). Thanks. Ara ara13c@yahoo.com

Wow you are all of an hour away! I am about to go to class right now, but I’ll be sending you an e-mail as soon as I get out to let you know how I go about my reviews, organizing the ARC, etc. I’m really honored that you picked me as an advanced reviewer! We’ll talk later, but check your inbox around 1ish.

Greetings from Austin :) I published a book last year, its a kids book so it probably won’t be in yoru age range ;) but feel free to still check it out! Its on amazon.com just type in Karate Cat, should be the first book that appears.

    • Riot Says:

WOO AUSTIN! Love it there – and judging by your blog’s main focus you’re in a great place for a foreign film buff. I review all different kinds of book on this site, so unless “Karate Cat” is a cookbook or self-help book, which it’s obviously not, I’ll add it to my review stack. May be a while, though, since the current pile is almost literally knee-deep. It sounds like a really fun book, though!

    Hello again Riot,
I sent you an email, but just in case your address changed, below is a copy. Sorry for the redundancy.

I am offering ten reviewers who have reviewed my previous books a month jump on reviewing and Mozart Was Taught, by Ara 13. My first novel, Drawers & Booths won an IPPY as an “Outstanding Book of the Year.” My second novel, Fiction, won an Eric Hoffer Book Award. If you are interested in moving Mozart to the front of your reviewing queue, I will gladly send you a copy. If you can’t, but would like to review my novel at a future date, I will certainly send it to you in August for review at your leisure, after the select reviewers post.
You can research me at ara13.com and on Amazon. Thanks.
